Tasmania sees Hemp in the News this week with a complete hemp crop having to go to waste due to high THC content.

It seems the problem was caused by a seed supply from China. It’s the second year Tim Schmidt has used the supplier and last year he was very impressed. It seems that weather was possibly the culprit with a much cooler growing season.

The crop, on testing, was found to contain over 1 percent THC, which is the component that gives marijuana the high. Unlike last year, the seed ended up testing at 1.5 percent. This amount exceeds the 1 percent government allowed content of THC and, therefore, had to be plowed back into the ground.

Schmidt’s consultant agriculturist, Mr. Chung, said it might be something in the genetics.
