Virginia is the latest state to get on board with industrial hemp. A new state law together with a hemp research program by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, means that the Virginia Polytechnic Institute can now start research the cultivation of hemp.

Governor Terry McAuliffe approved the bill that allows Virginia education institutions and universities to grow and study industrial hemp.

Virginia’s Hemp History goes way back to the 1600s, when farmers were actually required to grow hemp, and they could even pay their taxes with hemp.
