The New Zealand government is showing its support of Hemp as Medicine by contributing a sum of $760,000 towards research.

The government’s financial assistance will accelerate a research program that aims to set up a medicinal cannabis industry. The three-year program, piloted by Greenlab, is a $1.9 million project.

Medicinal cannabis has only been legal in New Zealand since April 2020, so the industry is still very much in its infancy. Growers lack the knowledge they need to grow plants with the best medicinal compounds possible. The research program will benefit growers substantially, by providing a standardization model for cultivation.
