There are many Uses of Hemp, but a plane? That’s right! Derek Kesek, an environmental activist from Ontario, is building the world’s first hemp plane.
Kesek’s company, Hempearth, which is based out of Waterloo, is working together with a Florida-based plane manufacturer to build a plane made primarily out of hemp.
Hemp’s sustainable, pesticide-free cultivation benefits would result in the ‘hemp plane’ having a much smaller carbon footprint than regularly-built planes. Kesek sees this as revolutionary.
Hemp will replace many of the fibreglass components of a plane, such as the wings, seats, pillows, and outer shell, which equal about 75% of the plane.
