In South Dakota, top agricultural experts discussed the many Uses of Hemp and shared tips on how best to grow the crop and its industry.
It has been one year since hemp became legal to grow in South Dakota, and the crop is showing great promise. At Dakotafest, the premier agricultural event in South Dakota, a panel of experts shared their knowledge on growing the crop and of its many uses.
Oren Lesmeister, a member of the South Dakota Farmers Union Board of Directors, spoke about the versatility of hemp, saying there are over 17,000 products that can be made from the plant. Although people commonly equate hemp with CBD, and the majority of states are growing hemp for this purpose, South Dakota farmers are focusing more on growing the crop for its fibre and grain.
The fibre and grain of hemp can be used to make clothing, nutritional food products, building materials, and much more.
