Medicine Hat, Alberta, might soon be home to a new large-scale hemp manufacturing facility that specializes in the bio-composite Uses of Hemp.
Inca Renewables is looking for a site to build a new 200,000 square-foot processing plant that would create 80 jobs, and Medicine Hat is a strong, viable option.
The hemp product is a ‘bio-composite,’ a material composed of two materials (one being naturally derived) which are combined to produce a new material with improved performance over individual constituent materials. Inca plans to use residual hemp stalk and fibres mixed with resin to form pellets, which are then used to make construction and manufacturing material such as car fenders, plywood, and plastics.
Inca Renewables’ Chief marketing officer, Camille Saltman, says Medicine Hat is an ideal area for growing hemp and the area has much to offer with regards to lifestyle, labour pool and transportation.
A final decision on the location for the new plants should be made before the end of the year.
