German hemp advocate, Lukas Hinkelmann, believes hemp production in Nepal has the potential to create an economic and developmental boom for the country. With the many Uses of Hemp including health foods, medicines, paper, rope, and even biofuels, the potential is undeniable.
In 2015 Hinkelmann travelled throughout Nepal, making contacts with hemp growers and suppliers to hear their views on whether an increase in hemp production could benefit Nepal economically.
Nepal has a long history with cannabis. It has been used both for recreation and for industry. The government deemed cannabis a narcotic in 1976, due to pressure from the U.S., but with the U.S. slowly lifting its ban on marijuana, it may be time for Nepal to follow suit.
