In the long list of Uses of Hemp is lime-based hemp concrete. The Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland has received a grant for 70,000 euros to study hemp as a construction material.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether hemp concrete could be a viable option for builders. Hemp is both energy efficient and eco-friendly, and part of the research will be to look into the soundproofing and fireproof qualities of the material.
Hemp concrete is made with a mixture of hemp fibres, lime and other materials. Hemp is related to the marijuana plant but contains little to no THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
