With so many Uses of Hemp, South Dakota farmers and industry members are eager to get the hemp industry off the ground.
Though biologically related to marijuana, industrial hemp is a different strain of cannabis that lacks the psychoactive effects of its cousin. Despite this, law makers opposed hemp legalization for over eighty years. Last year marked a milestone in South Dakota’s hemp industry, when Governor Kristi Noem signed a bill that permitted hemp cultivation in the state.
Now, one year later, South Dakota farmers are sowing their first hemp seeds. Derrick Dohmann, sales and marketing manager of Horizon Hemp Seeds, commented on how there is a remarkable amount of uses for hemp, from Nike shoes to BMW and Mercedes interiors. There is an astonishing amount of opportunities for what hemp can be used for.
