In early 2014, the Farm Bill was passed in U.S. congress, allowing state agriculture departments and universities to grow hemp for research purposes.
The Farm Bill ended the ban on hemp cultivation that existed since the Marijuana Tax Act came into being in 1937. There are now nine states that have permits to grow hemp.
A very important fact about hemp is that although it is a type of cannabis plant, as is marijuana, the two are quite different – hemp is used for its fibre and marijuana is used for its THC content.
