In South Carolina today, there is Hemp in the News due to crime labs having problems with keeping up with THC testing in the state.

With the overwhelming growth of South Carolina’s hemp farming program, state police are finding themselves in a predicament with the increase in the need for testing THC content. The similarity in the appearance of hemp and marijuana is causing headaches for state police who find it almost impossible to tell the difference, when confronted with the products.

South Carolina has seen tremendous growth in the amount of hemp farming since the beginning of its program. Trey Cooper grows approximately 400 hemp plants indoors, for oil and pain relief products. He believes this form of pain relief could be as big as painkillers such as Tylenol.

So where are the differences? Hemp is a type of cannabis, but the uses for hemp are many and varied from cloth and ropes to oils and food. Marijuana, on the other hand, is used primarily for the high obtained by smoking it due to its THC content.
