The inability to identify Hemp vs. Marijuana has one state governor holding back on legalizing the cash crop.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem holds fast on her position to deny hemp farming in the state, despite federal legalisation. In her opinion, legalizing hemp is the same as legalizing marijuana because of their striking resemblance.
The difficulty is that because they look like the same plant, it’s difficult for police to ascertain whether the plant in question is legal or not.
Noem is not opposed to the crop being transported through the state of South Dakota, but remains steadfast in her view against production. Her priority is for law enforcement to be able to do their job, in respect to drug laws.
