Last Friday in the Idaho legislature, Gov. Brad Little signed bill HB 126 into law, setting the record straight for Hemp vs. Marijuana. It is now legal to grow, process and transport hemp in the state. Idaho is the last state in the nation to do so.
The bill makes the distinction between hemp and its illicit cousin, marijuana. Despite their resemblance, hemp has no more than 0.3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol, (THC), the psychoactive element that gives the marijuana high.
Hemp is a promising and versatile crop with enormous market potential. Removing industrial hemp from Idaho’s list of controlled substances opens up new opportunities for farming, processing and marketing.
