In Nebraska, laws surrounding Hemp vs. Marijuana need to be updated, according to Omaha State Senator Justin Wayne. Their differences need to be defined and laws need to be changed.
The current laws for hemp date back nearly five decades, when marijuana was banned and hemp was misaligned with its cannabis cousin.
During the world wars, industrial hemp was invaluable. It was used to make uniforms and ropes and the U.S. government encouraged farmers to grow as much as possible.
In the past few decades, research has revealed the health benefits of cannabinoids (CBD) found in hemp, and Senator Wayne wants the laws changed to make it more accessible.
