Ohio hemp farmers are still hindered by the stigma of Hemp vs. Marijuana, as lawmakers cling to preventative measures against hemp’s cousin.
The Ohio Hemp Farmers Cooperative would like to see hemp treated the same as other crops. The Cooperative says the regulations for hemp farmers need to be changed to make it easier and more economical for hemp cultivation.
Three Ohio House of Representatives visited a farm in Westerville last week. Julie Doran, head of the Ohio Hemp Farmers Cooperative, was there to talk to the public about the growing of hemp and what the industrious plant is used for. The other purpose of Doran’s presence, was to send a message to the state officials about the current hemp laws.
Doran said the hemp laws need to be eased in order to give farmers the same opportunities that other states have, such as Kentucky. Last year, Kentucky hemp processors earned close to $60 million.
