Most people don’t know the difference between Hemp vs. Marijuana and make the mistake of thinking hemp is a smokable product. Hemp is a type of cannabis plant, but it contains an almost immeasurable amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that gives the high.
Entrepreneur Lorenzo Mendez Stewart, is embarking on a hemp building project. When he thinks of hemp, he doesn’t think of smoking, he thinks of the many other uses of the plant. But mainly, he thinks of hempcrete.
When Stewart was contemplating building a house for himself, he started researching building materials and discovered that hempcrete, a hemp-based building material, would be the most suitable for him.
Through his research he quickly learned that building materials can be very costly, which makes it a real challenge for young people to build their own homes. But then he came across hempcrete, which is cost-effective, sustainable, breathable, and stronger than concrete.
Stewart wants to inspire others to realize the value of hemp and to breach the stigma of the plant. People need to know that hemp is not marijuana.
