It’s high time a distinction is made between Hemp vs. Marijuana. Efforts are being made to change the laws surrounding marijuana – to have the classification changed and even to have it fully legalized. But what about hemp? Now is the perfect time to separate hemp from its cousin and start recognizing its environmental potential.
Although industrial hemp is the same plant species as the medicinal and recreational drug, marijuana, it contains less than 0.3% THC. Therefore, hemp has only one purpose – industrial – but eighty years ago it was lumped together with marijuana as a Schedule 1 classified drug.
Hemp needs to be reclassified to receive distinction from its cousin. This would allow the cultivation, research and development of industrial hemp without interruption due to the confusion of Hemp vs. Marijuana.
