North Carolina has joined the band of states that have legalized industrial hemp farming. It’s important to distinguish between Hemp vs. Marijuana because their differences are often misunderstood. Hemp is used for a wide variety of industrial and consumer products, which is good news for North Carolina farmers.
Hemp comes from a different strain of Cannabis plant than marijuana and contains less than 0.3% of the psychoactive ingredient we know as THC. Therefore, it is impossible to get high from hemp. So although hemp and marijuana are ‘cousins,’ they are entirely different plants.
Hemp has been cultivated for hundreds of years, and has over 25,000 uses, including food, fuel and fibre, clothing, medicine, building materials and paper products.
