In Honolulu Hemp Politics, the State House of Representatives has approved a bill that will allow farmers to grow industrial hemp. The bill (HB2555) will go to the Senate next.
The bill was written by Rep. Kaniela and 34 others. It answers the call from farmers for legalization of hemp cultivation. It is the strongest and most compelling industrial hemp bill put forward this year, and follows in Kentucky and Colorado’s footsteps with its request for complete legalization at a Federal level.
The bill is partly a reaction to the end of the sugar era in Hawaii. There is an urgent need to replace sugar farming with new crops, to prevent agricultural damage and extended unemployment.
