In U.S. Hemp Politics, a motion is in the works to broaden the legalisation of hemp and CBD products at the federal level. At a recent Hemp Roundtable Zoom conference, federal lawmakers, representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the White House, assembled to discuss Hemp Politics and the potential for law change.
Virginia’s U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith is backing HR 841, a bill that will make hemp and hemp-derived CBD products “lawful for use under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act as a dietary ingredient in a dietary supplement and for other purposes.” Griffith anticipates the bill to have a positive outcome in Congress.
Hemp is a member of the cannabis sativa family along with marijuana. The difference, is that hemp contains no more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the element that gives the marijuana high, while marijuana contains between 10 and 20 percent.
Griffith remarked that many states are now legalising recreational marijuana, helping to root out opposition towards hemp products.
