Since the 2018 changes to U.S. Hemp Politics, thousands of acres of hemp have been grown across the country. New Mexico’s first harvest is in full swing.
Growing hemp in the state of New Mexico has had its challenges, but there is much hope and enthusiasm about the new crop. Four hundred hemp-growing licenses were issued in the state, amounting to 7,000 acres of outdoor hemp and 170 acres of greenhouse-grown hemp.
The interest in hemp-farming was greater than expected in New Mexico, but this first growing season has had its ups and downs. The unusually hot summer prompted early blooms, and the prevalent winds were troublesome, but there is still optimism for this fruitful new crop.
