It’s time for NZ’s Hemp Politics to get an update. Industry leaders want the government to add regulations for health and wellness products.
The New Zealand Hemp Industries Association (NZHIA) reported that a health and wellness sector could grow to be an annual $2 billion industry within ten years. However, the government would need to implement a structure of rules and guidelines to make this possible.
According to Richard Barge, chair of NZHIA, the budding future of hemp for food and fibre products is common knowledge, whereas the immense market potential of hemp in the health and wellness industry is less recognized.
The NZHIA is asking the government to implement a system of regulations for the production and marketing of non-medicinal hemp products. Despite the fact that industrial hemp and medicinal cannabis have been legalised in NZ, there is a gap in the country’s hemp industry. That gap includes topicals, balms, dietary supplements, and other natural health products. It is now time to close the gap and embrace the full potential of this versatile and opportunistic plant.
