Hemp Politics are making headlines as the Colorado Department of Agriculture makes a move to coordinate its hemp laws with federal regulations.
Scott Perez was one of the first registered industrial hemp growers in Southwest Colorado. As his expertise in the crop grew, farmers started asking him for advice. Eventually, he became an agricultural consultant for the industry.
Then came the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalised hemp as an agricultural commodity. The number of prospective hemp farmers registered with the Colorado Department of Agriculture increased substantially.
The Farm Bill gives hemp farmers a choice, to either follow the regulations laid out by the federal Department of Agriculture, or states could present their own regulatory plans to the USDA for approval. This is what the state of Colorado did this week.
