In Maine, U.S., a legislator challenged current Hemp Politics with a proposal to ease hemp regulations, to help move the industry forward.
Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree is drawing attention to the stringent regulations laid out in the 2018 Farm Bill, which are withholding progress for the country’s hemp industry. Last week, Pingree introduced a bill, the Hemp Advancement Act of 2022, to the House of Representatives. The bill requests the removal of impractical testing demands, changes to THC thresholds, and an end to discrimination towards people with a past drug offense.
For farmers, hemp can provide a lot of opportunity. It can be grown for its fibre, grain or cannabinoids. There are thousands of uses of hemp, and its sustainability make it an ideal crop for the future.
