In Hemp Politics, Ryan Quarles, the new agriculture commissioner of Kentucky is determined to solidify the industrial hemp industry in the state. He also wants to encourage and assist Kentucky farmers find their way onto the international market scene.
Kentucky has been growing Industrial hemp for three years now, under the U.S. Farm Bill of 2014. Quarles was a supporter of hemp cultivation from the beginning. In 2013 he voted for a measure that was in favour of hemp farming in Kentucky.
Now, three years later, he aims to prove that hemp is a viable crop with economic benefits. He plans to request Congress for a complete separation of hemp from marijuana, which would eliminate the problems surrounding industrial hemp farming.
