Idaho’s Hemp Politics have made progress, as the State Department of Agriculture has begun issuing licenses for hemp production and handling.
Idaho was the 50th state in the U.S. to legalise hemp. That was in April 2021. The Idaho Farm Bureau had been advocating for change to hemp laws for almost twenty years, but it wasn’t until the 2018 federal farm bill that change began to happen. The farm bill removed hemp from the list of controlled substances and made it an ordinary agricultural commodity.
Now licensing has begun, and a small number of farmers will be able to grow hemp this season, to produce insulation, paper, oil and food products.
