In Idaho, Hemp Politics could soon take a positive turn towards legalization, which would allow farmers to grow industrial hemp next year.
Idaho officials are putting together a proposal for the federal government for the legalization of hemp cultivation in the state. The State Department of Agriculture aims to have the proposal ready for submission to the U.S. Department of Agriculture no later than September 1st.
Unlike the other U.S. states, there is still a stigma around hemp in Idaho. Republican Gov. Brad Little and the state law enforcement have been apprehensive about hemp, due to its resemblance to marijuana. They worry that hemp could be used to conceal illegal cultivation and transportation of its illicit cousin.
