In U.S. Hemp Politics this week, a milestone was reached with the Senate’s passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) spearheaded the movement to pass the hemp section of the Farm Bill.
The bill now needs to be passed by the House of Representatives and signed by President Trump. If passed, hemp will once again be a legal agricultural crop, and it will no longer be on the federal list of controlled substances.
The original Farm Bill was introduced in 2014. It implemented hemp pilot programs to study the growing conditions and potential of hemp as a crop. Studies have been very successful in participating states, so it’s time to take the next big step.
