Two years after the passage of the Farm bill, Hemp Politics is still making news as one of the two remaining hold-outs vote on hemp farming.
In Idaho this week, a house committee voted down the legalization of industrial hemp farming in the state. Although many farmers and farm groups spoke up for the bill, anti-marijuana pressure groups and retired law enforcement professionals argued against it. They believe that the passage of the bill would only lead the way to making it easier for the “marijuana-hemp culture” to get a foothold in the state.
Rep. Caroline Nilsson-Troy, R-Genesee, who was lead sponsor of the bill closed her comments with, “I want to talk about the ‘marijuana-hemp culture’…. You can go to Albertsons, you can buy hemp hearts, hemp milk, hemp lip balm even hemp treats for your dog. Now tell me how that equals a marijuana culture.”
