Britain’s Hemp Politics are overdue for an overhaul, as current regulations make it impossible for UK farmers to cash in on the CBD industry.
The UK’s stringent laws lead to products being imported rather than being produced in the UK, where farmers could reap the financial benefits. In a time when British agriculture is suffering as a result of Brexit, and now the pandemic, revising the nation’s hemp laws would spark new opportunities for farmers.
CBD is becoming very popular in the UK. So far, it is a £300 million industry. Producing CBD oil in the UK would benefit farmers and the nation’s economy as a whole. However, the hemp industry is hindered by outdated rules and regulations. Currently, hemp can only be grown for its seeds and stalks, but CBD oil comes from the leaves and flowers of the plant. With the allowance of full plant harvesting, British farmers could cash in on this budding new industry.
