Alaska’s Hemp Politics are taking a step in the right direction, by aligning its hemp regulations with those at the federal level.
On May 18, a bill was passed by the Alaska Legislature that would ensure a long-term industrial hemp program. This would open up commercial opportunities for Alaskan-made hemp products and hemp cultivation in the state.
Hemp fibres can be used to make several different products, including paper, clothing, construction materials, and animal bedding. Hemp seeds are highly nutritious and are used to make food products. The oil from hemp seeds is used to make cosmetics, medicines, and personal care products.
SB 27, which passed with a vote of 58-2, is now awaiting the governor’s signature.
