Hemp Politics are prevalent in U.S.A.’s news. This week takes us to Montgomery, Alabama, where the House of Representatives is moving towards legalization of industrial hemp.
On Tuesday, April 12th, the House passed legislation that will allow research into the production and economic potential of hemp farming. This means that universities will be able to apply for permits to grow industrial hemp for study purposes, without the threat of the controlled substances laws.
Although hemp is a species of the cannabis plant, its THC content is minuscule. (THC is the psychoactive chemical in marijuana that gives the high.)
Alabama is one of a minimum 28 states looking at changing their hemp laws.
