Hemp Nutrition is not something Australia and New Zealand can enjoy, because hemp-based food products are still not permitted. In Tasmania, however, the government is in full support of ending this ban on the selling of hemp-derived foods in Australia.
Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff has informed hemp farmers that his government is working hard to get the state and federal departments to amend the food laws that make it illegal to sell food derived from hemp seeds or oil.
The health ministers of Australia and New Zealand will attend a meeting in April where a decision will be made regarding the food law amendment.
Tasmania’s industrial hemp industry has always received full support from Rockliff and his government, he says. It has been a joint effort to try to convince the government to make changes that will allow hemp food products.
