The value of Hemp Nutrition is just one of the thousands of reasons why farmers would want to grow hemp, but in Idaho, growing hemp is not an option.
Farmer Tim Cornie from Magic Valley, Idaho, traveled to Alberta, Canada, to meet with Canadian hemp farmers and researchers. He wanted to learn about this miracle crop that has been grown in Canada since the 1990’s.
Cornie discovered that it would be very reasonable to grow hemp in Idaho, and that it could give the state’s agricultural economy a good boost.
Cornie and his cousin, Kurt Mason, own an organic and non-GMO food company in Magic Valley. As farmers, they are keen to grow hemp for its nutritional value, and sell the hulled hemp seed as food.
Hemp has joined the league of superfoods for good reason! Hemp seeds offer a rich source of digestible protein and the essential fatty acids necessary for good health. They’re nutrient dense, rich in vitamin E, magnesium, calcium , iron and potassium. They’re also GMO free, gluten free, and 100% THC free. (That’s right, eating hemp seeds won’t get you high.)
Unfortunately for Cornie and cousin Mason, Idaho is one of three U.S. states that have yet to legalise the crop, but 2020 could be the year that changes this.
