Nebraska’s ‘ditchweed’ is practically all that remains of its once-thriving hemp farming industry. Ditchweed grows wild in Nebraska and has a striking resemblance to the marijuana plant.
Bill Hawkins of the Nebraska Hemp Company sees hemp as an ancient crop with great future potential. Although it was once a common food, fibre and fuel source, it has been a scarce commodity since World War II, especially in the U.S., as the government’s fight against marijuana also destroyed the hemp farming industry.
Hemp Nutrition is a benefit that should not be overlooked. Studies have also shown that the THC and CBD (cannabidiol) properties of hemp plants can be used as treatment for diseases such as epilepsy and for the side effects of chemo.
