A very enterprising family farm in Latvia is breaking new ground by farming hemp and making a variety of Hemp Nutrition food products.
Although hemp may seem like a high-risk crop, it is also a versatile and fruitful one, and one Latvian family has created a healthy lifestyle by growing hemp for its nutritional benefits.
Hemp is no stranger to Latvia. Latvians have a long history of using hemp to make rope, insect repellant, and highly nutritious foods. Their culture even has folk songs about it, and their culinary heritage includes a spread made from crushed hemp seeds.
Andris Višņevskis and his wife, Deborah, own Obelisk Farm near Varakļāni. They have developed several hemp food products with a range of flavour from sweet to salty. They aim to change the common opinion that hemp is healthy but dull in flavour.
