U.S. farmers are beginning to plant hemp for the first time in decades. Federal regulations have prohibited the cultivation of hemp since ‘The Controlled Substances Act’ was put into place in 1970.
In 2014 however, the Farm Bill is making it possible for certain agricultural universities and farmers to cultivate hemp legally. Kentucky, California, and Colorado are a few of the states that are welcoming hemp with open arms and bringing hemp in the news.
Although hemp is becoming a more legal and accepted crop, it is still illegal to import seeds. Acquiring hemp seed in the U.S. can be quite challenging, and some growers are buying one seed at a time, at a price of $5 or $10 per seed. As one can imagine, anyone in possession of hemp seeds are very popular.
