New Zealand’s Hemp Industry is proceeding with caution by making sure a framework is in place before more farmers get growing.
Farmers all across New Zealand are ready and willing to start growing the industrious crop, but the country’s largest hemp grower wants them to hold off. Dave Jordan of Hemp New Zealand wants to ensure industry markets and infrastructure are established to secure success for farmers.
Although there is a lot of entrepreneurial ambition surrounding the new industry, Jordan says it’s important to lay the groundwork first by informing the public and generating interest in potential customers.
Hemp New Zealand is growing one thousand hectares of hemp with the help of one hundred farmers. The company is using the hemp fibre to produce eco-matting for road construction and will be adding textiles to their product list soon.
