The Thompson Nicola Regional District board has Hemp in the News as it sets its sights on launching an industrial hemp industry.
At a recent board meeting, Electoral Area E director Sally Watson introduced the industrial hemp idea, as there is tremendous need for new industry in B.C.’s interior. With this summers forest fires blazing, the need is becoming even greater.
Watson was elected to lead the inquiry of whether hemp is a viable industry for the area, and will look to the B.C. government for guidance and assistance in testing the potential crop.
The ongoing wildfires have had a detrimental effect on the timber industry, and Watson is hoping that the upcoming federal legalisation of marijuana will trigger relaxed hemp regulations as well.
