The state of Virginia put Hemp in the News this week with its new industrial hemp research project.
Up until now, hemp growing was limited to the hemp pilot programs conducted at four universities in the state. But now the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has a new industrial hemp program that is open to anyone.
As it’s a cannabis plant, interested growers need to register to participate, but it’s important to note that although hemp is a member of the cannabis family, it contains no more than three percent THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis.
