Hemp in the News

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has Hemp in the News with its latest regulation changes to hemp cultivation.

2018 was a significant year for the U.S. hemp industry, with the Farm Bill legalising hemp cultivation, thus breaking a ban of over 80 years. However, some of the USDA regulations have been a significant hinderance to the industry’s growth, but that is all about to change.

The USDA has eased regulations in two areas. The first, is an increase in the permitted Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) level from 0.3% to 1%. Previously, hemp crops with a THC level higher than 0.3% had to be ruined and wasted. The second change to the regulations is the increase of time for harvesting.

Feedback from farmers and others in the industry, helped bring about these changes. In addition, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced a bill that included the Hemp Economic Mobilization Plan. The plan addressed the difficulties and barriers that hemp growers have faced since the 2018 legalisation.
