The small northern Texas town of Gunter is putting Hemp in the News. An investor is looking to turn an old cotton gin, that has been closed for decades, into the first cannabis growing site in the state.
The businessman looking at the property is interested in converting the old buildings into a processing plant to make CBD (cannabidiol) oil, a medicinal oil used in the treatment of severe epilepsy. A law was passed in Texas last year that allows for the cultivation of the cannabis species used for medicinal purposes. This specific strain of cannabis has been engineered to have little to no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component found in recreational marijuana.
The businessman behind the plan is Patrick Moran, the president and co-founder of the Texas Cannabis Industry Association.
