Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham is putting Hemp in the News with his efforts to see the hemp food industry legalized in New South Wales, Australia.
Although it is legal to grow industrial hemp, the laws only allow the fibre content of the hemp plants to be used. Buckingham wants to see Australia’s agriculture cash in on hemp food as well as fibre. Currently, hemp farmers must import seeds rather than saving their own.
Buckingham recognizes the full potential of hemp, from industrial as well as food. Hemp seed production is a lucrative business worldwide, with China producing 70%.
