Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s support for the expansion of New York State’s industrial hemp industry put Hemp in the News this week. He has taken legislative action to help make the hemp industry a success in the state, which is a great leap forward for the state’s agricultural economy.
The new legislation assures that industrial hemp will be recognised as an agricultural product, according to the New York Agriculture and Markets Law. A specialised hemp group will be in place to provide information about research and regulations pertaining to hemp cultivation. Also, there will be an estimated $10 million allotted for grants focused on the growth of the industry through research and economic progress.
Cuomo says that with the focus being on both farms and businesses, New York is setting an example of how to expand the industry and generate economic growth from the farms through to the manufacturers.
