The first ever hemp manufacturing facility in NC puts Hemp in the News. The state of North Carolina will be opening their first hemp manufacturing facility next year, following approval from city officials who signed off on a zoning permit for a hemp processing plant in Asheboro, NC.

The approval, made by City Council members on Thursday, sets the building plans in motion. The facility will be a 5,200 square-feet structure built on Dorsett Avenue.

The facility will process industrial hemp plants and seeds into food and oil products.

Bob Crumley of CF Properties LLC spoke before the council about the zoning permit, and included a summary of the history of hemp. In his presentation he commented on the common misconception that hemp is the same as marijuana. He clarified that despite being from the same cannabis plant, they are entirely different.
