A vote within the Senate Agriculture Committee put Hemp in the News this week. On Wednesday, June 13, the senators voted 20 to 1 in favour of passing the farm bill.
The farm bill, or ‘Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018,’ is an extensive bill that includes a wide range of topics, from financial assistance for farmers to rural development procedures and, of course, the legalisation of hemp.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell R-Ky has been the mastermind behind the advancement of hemp legalisation. At the meeting on Wednesday, he spoke about the importance of legalising hemp, for the benefit of Kentucky farmers who are still looking for an alternative to tobacco.
