Kentucky’s Department of Agriculture puts Hemp in the News again with their search for hemp farmers for the 2015 growing season. The state of Kentucky is making efforts to bring back hemp as an operable and profitable crop.
With the introduction of the farm bill in 2014, Kentucky cultivated and harvested its first hemp crop in over 70 years. Throughout the state, there were pilot projects created at various universities for research purposes.
The goal of the research was to discover cultivation techniques that would help establish a hemp industry for the state. There are more than 25,000 uses of hemp, such as textiles, paper, building materials, foods and beverages, cosmetics, and auto parts.
