Celebrations in Kentucky put Hemp in the News this week. A group of advocates, known as the Kentucky Hempsters, hosted an event to celebrate the triumph of the 2018 farm bill.
President Trump’s signature on the bill made industrial hemp legal as an agricultural commodity, and removed hemp from the federal list of controlled substances.
This law change is immensely beneficial to farmers. It presents a new, versatile crop that will help them expand and diversify their farms. A significant change is that farmers will be able to get insurance now, which they couldn’t before.
With its many uses and recent legalization, industrial hemp has a very bright future in Kentucky.
