In South Dakota a ten-year injunction against industrial hemp farming brings Hemp in the News.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Viken removed an injunction that was filed against a South Dakota tribal member in 2004. The injunction was to prohibit the tribal member, Alex White Plume, from farming hemp. This doesn’t mean it is now legal to grow hemp on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, however.
The judge commented on how laws have changed since the injunction was filed in 2004. The introduction of the 2014 farm bill and recent marijuana legalization laws have contributed significantly to this shift.
