The Indiana legislature brings Hemp in the News this week, as the measure to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana was turned down.
Those against the bill have concerns about industrial hemp having an influence on Indiana’s marijuana laws, even though hemp is very different from marijuana – it contains less than 0.3% THC, and is used for industrial purposes such as clothing, rope, canvas, and building materials.
Despite this opposition, Indiana is one of the states conducting hemp pilot studies under Obama’s Farm Bill of 2014, which allows education and state agriculture departments to grow hemp for research purposes.
